ohhhh My gosh i loved it!!!!!!!! I can completely and utterly relate to Shay. She's kind and compassionate but she's insecure and doesn't like the way she looks. She's a bacon lover ( like me ) and she has amazing best friends. This book is skillfully and wonderfully made. I would expect no less from Lola. Her books never disappoint!!!!! The struggles that Shay deals with in this book almost every girl can relate. Every girl is insecure about something!! High school is hard and it only gets harder from their on over all great book! I suggest any girl in high school who loves books to read this!!!!

I saw this book recommended on a list of new reads, so I tried it out. I knew it was a YA Fiction book going in but after reading The Fault In Our Stars, I thought I would give it a try.The prose/poetry style wasn't an issue for me; it makes for a quick read. I do, however, take issue with some of the depth of the characters. While you understand Shay and her issues, Dash and his, there are not enough--for my taste--for the others. For instance, I want to know more about the terminally ill girl, the step mom and even Blake. I need more back story to really care about these guys. That said, if you're a younger/newer reader these issues probably aren't a problem for you. You'll like the heroine and you'll love the story. Things almost like this happen in real life every day. It did to me.Two stars for older readers because of predictability and lack of back story and four stars for younger ones because of the prose/prose style puts it at a solid three stars.

The poetry format may not be for everyone. But let me tell you Shays story is, she had to deal with real life bullying and other issues in her school that hit head on. I love Her and her bestie, the story pulls you In and makes you want to know what happens to her.

This is incredible!!! When I first got it I didn’t want to read it but then i started to, I though it was a by ch of poems but it wasn’t that. Its a great story. This book is perfect for my readings on the train. Love the text messages in it. I barely read actual books. But this is amazing

This took me back to high school. I loved reading this style, the poetry is unforgettable. I can't wait to read more from this author.

This story honestly was my least favorite of 2016. First it is written in verse and I had no idea until opening it that was the case. It isn't that I don't like poetic verse, it's that this story was made 10 times more confusing because of it. It's about an overweight girl who is 15 just lost her father a year ago, has a gay friend, and a terminally ill friend, and a step mother she hates. All crammed into poetic verse... It was way to crowded. Shay Summers meets a boy online and finds out he is from her school and they fall in love. My main problem with this book is she had such big issues with her own weight. I understand that because I am an overweight girl myself, I always have been. I thought it would be a story of a girl coming to love who she is on her own but no. It is a story of a boy falling in love with a girl and because a boy loves her then she can love herself. I mean what kind of nonsense is that? I hated the ending. I understood it was suppose to be cute and funny but it just made clear the fact she was fat and she was okay with it because a guy was okay with it. I mean what garbage. It was not the book for me. I honestly wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.

I don't recommend this to anyone. This is the definition of crap. The only way to define this better:YA oh so original slam "poetry".

I don’t read poetry that often so I find it hard to review… Actually, I think the only other poetry book I ever read was The Princess Saves Herself in the One and it was FANTASTIC. But back to the point, I don’t exactly know how, or what even to say in a review for poetry book. So MINI review time!I saw this book at the library and picked it up immediately. I adored the art on the cover and bright, vibrant colors, so I looked on the inside and… it… was… a… POETRY BOOK!I was actually really surprised, I don’t see poetry books that often. I liked how this one sounded (plus cute cover) so I planned on reading it. It was a short, quick read, the nicely done poetry really helped that out anywho, on to the book.-As I’ve already said, I kind of have a hard time reviewing poetry. I DO count this book as a poetry book. Honestly, I’m not sure why people say that having spaces between words isn’t poetry because it is pretty darn poetic if you ask me. The writing Lola St.vil created was so poetic, very descriptive and emotional this book actually made me tear up, and smile, but mostly cry. This book was a roller coaster ride, full of ups and downs. We can’t help but love Shay, we want to root for her. Lola St.vil wrote some amazing poetry, I really want to read more by her!-Again, I don’t read poetry books often, this is the second one I’ve ever read (maybe third?)… Girls like Me told a story using poetry, it was something I’d never seen before. This book had a full plot! This blew me away, and I would really love to see more of this.-The characters in this story, while not very developed (in my opinion), were lovable. I adored Shay and her story, well parts of her story. Kelly was awful towards her…. I loved her relationship with the guy she met online, although I found his true identity to be really predictable, that doesn’t take away from the joy (or sadness (at times)) I felt at reading their exchanges.-My biggest complaint was that the story wasn’t very original. I think we’ve seen stories like this before… but it was still good. I’m not going to let that take away from the power of this book, because it was powerful. The main character, Shay, is overweight, she doesn’t have many friends and endures bullying. Her father died, so she feels alone… Shay’s story was easy to relate to, and hard to read at times. Her feelings poured into the poems making me emotional at times. We could connect with her.-Sometimes the poetry switched POV without explanation. Sometimes this threw me off, but it didn’t bother me that much. I sort of wish there was more explanation before the point of view switched but again, it wasn’t that abrupt or hard to figure out.-One of my biggest problems with this book was the lack of backstory. I get that this is a poetry book so I sort of understand why it would be hard to add backstory without it becoming too long, but somethings I would have liked more explanation on. What was Kelly’s deal? Why was she such a jerk, just because? Maybe… but I would have liked some reasoning. I DO get that some people are mean for no reason so I acknowledge that…Overall, it was a roller-coaster ride of emotion, a poetry book that told a story. GUYS, while some parts of this I didn’t like (random POV switch) this book was POWERFUL. I highly recommend it if you enjoy poetry! I don’t like poetry that much so maybe I need to stop reading poetry books… BUT I am SUPER glad I read this one because it was pretty good!
