Yes...dinosaurs rule for twenty-four hours! Eat or be eaten.To cut to the chase, Ben Cartwright has been stuck in this world for ten years, thriving on his wits and common sense to avoid these carnivorous beasts. His childhood sweetheart Emma assembles a gathering of folks to go back and liberate him from these horrors. Suspense on every page...every paragraph.And if one was to analyze...and why not...in a way, today’s carnivores are the tightfisted company CEO’s and power-hungry countries feeding off the everyday folk.
Greig Beck has hit yet another home run with book two in his Primordia series.....And I for one, am hoping for a THREE!!There were many things to love about this book, but my favorite were the scenes with Ben spending time at the prehistoric ocean....Even though Ben went through someharrowing amd horrifing times, to be sure, there were also several that were tender and endearing ....Ralph the Shark being a standout.....Hey, we all need a buddy sometimes...You can just tell how much time Beck has spent in and around water and his love and awe of it and its creatures...(I had to reread these scenes they were so good!)There's just the right amount of gore, plenty of dino monsters and bone chilling action in this 2nd installment ,as well....A scene involving a Gigantosaurus and a fissure in the earth gave me an anxiety attack.......And did i mention the SNAKES ??? Yikes!!Beck has proven to his readers that he hasnt gotten stuck in the same old, same old thriller genre , that many authors do that write a series.....He writes about monsters and Special Forces (Alex Hunter) , Historical thrillers (Matt Kearns) , Fantasy (Valkaryn) , Megaladon sharks (Fathomless , Abyss ) , and now Dinosaur thrillers (Primordia 1 and 2) ...I've read every one and its hard to pick a favourite , so lets just say its always "The current one"... : )Well done, once again, Greig Beck......5 out of 5 stars!!!
I loved this story, but I have one big issue with it. Emma had ten years to plan for this rescue, but waits until the last minute to figure out how they're even going to get to the plateau once the event has started. Since all electronics fails when close to the event, this is a big issue. She doesn't really start planning until less than two years before the next event. If that were me, I'd start doing my research the minute I returned and go in with much better defenses. She knew what they were up against, even if no one else believed her. Granted, the solution she comes up with the get the plateau is genius, but if she had thought about it ahead of time, it could have been much better equipment. It's not like she didn't have the money behind her to get whatever she needed. That said, this was another great dinosaur adventure. It makes you wish you could go back in time and see them for real, without getting eaten of course. I love the science and history behind all of Beck's books and always enjoy the ride from beginning to end. Will anyone be stupid or fearless enough to go back in another ten years?
I greatly enjoyed both of the Primordia novels. This is NOT Conan Doyle's "The Lost World" revisited. Instead, it is supposed to be about the facts that inspired his novel, a novel based on his lack of understanding of what was actually going on on top of that plateau in South America. It reads almost like a book for the family, so the swearing (very little) and the violence (not overly graphic) sort of took me by surprise. No sex scenes. Plot involves a sort of time travel; nothing mind-bending, but, imaginatively done, nevertheless. Characters aren't too deeply drawn, but they are deep enough for the purposes of stories such as these. Not necessarily for everyone, but, if you enjoy the "Jurassic Park" franchise, or movies like "One Million Years B.C." or "The Land that Time Forgot", then, I heartily recommend this series. One silly scene towards the end of the 2nd book where a Titanoboa kills a Giganotosaurus, which is much bigger than the snake, but, hey, maybe that's the one that we never found in the fossil record, so, who knows. Recommended for Dino lovers everywhere.
It's 10 years later and Primordial is on it's way back. Emma, Ben's old army buddies, Andy and Helen and 2 more are ready to go back in time and find Ben. For Emma it means finding Ben alive and bringing him home. The motley group don't really believe Emma but they will soon realize she didn't lie how bad it was. Follow the group as they dodge prehistoric creatures, a world not easy to survive. They find Ben alive and head home only to find that Andy has disappeared from to follow his dream of living in a world he has only studied through fossils. I can't wait to read the next book. Will Andy survive?
Fantastic adventure romp which should be on the big screen, or HBO or Netflix. How are none of these author's novels not being adapted to film?My only gripes for this story is that Ben could survive for a decade in a dinosaur world and not get seriously injured, or go mad with no human contact. And why his girlfriend waited until the last few months to gather what all she would need to get back and get Ben and everyone back.But it's just fun, action-packed excellent adventure!
Beck is hands down the best horror/thriller sci-fi author this century.Wow! These two books were fantastic. I love reading a book where you feel like you are actually there watching. That is what Grieg Beck does. I read Primordia and was able to go right into Primordia 2. I had a difficult time putting the book down. Now, since finishing it I'm having Primorida withdrawals and can't wait for Primordia 3. We have to find out what Andy is up to in his adventure.
