My 4yo daughter enjoys the Swift Walker stories (continental journey especially, and we will purchase the space one soon). I like Swift Walker, too, but the page about North America really bothers me. The landmarks Swift visits are all USA-centric, and the ship isn't even a place. D.C. is described as "the nation's capital" but the nation isn't named and the page is supposed to be about the entire continent. And the way the continent's name is displayed "North! America!" is bizarre.Swift's catch phrase "Wow! Amazing!" is a fun repetitive element that I'm disappointed is mostly missing from A Journey Across the Oceans. I hope it's part of A Space Adventure.All that being said, I like Swift Walker. He's imaginative, adventurous, and enthusiastic, and Alejandro Chamberlain's illustrations of Swift are delightfully expressive.Importantly, Verlyn Tarlton's Swift Walker books are a perfect example of what Rumaan Alam called for in his Slate article "We Don’t Only Need More Diverse Books. We Need More Diverse Books Like The Snowy Day.": "We need diverse books to be sure, but those must be part of a literature that reflects our reality, books in which little black boys push one another on the swings, in which little black girls daydream about working in the zoo, in which kids of every color do what kids of every color do every day: tromp through the woods, obsess about trucks, love their parents, refuse to eat dinner." My three yr old loves this book. The first day reading the book together, he was so excited to tell his dad about what he learned. His dad was amazed at hearing his son talk about Africa and the animals that could be found there. It's a great way to introduce geology to small children
I love this book. My children are 20 and 23 year old, but I still purchased this book just to have in my Black Author's collection. This book is very educational. I actually learned something from this book. I recommend that every elementary school purchase this book not just for the library, but it could actually be used as an educational resource. Awesome book. As a writer and author, I was beyond impressed with this book.
My son really enjoys reading the Swift Walker books. I wish there were more adventures for him to go on so we could keep buying them. So far we purchased the three that are sold on Amazon, but I do wish there were more. The character is so cute and reminds me of my son. Please write more of these books. The illustrations are great!
This series of books is fantastic! Books about science that feature children of color are sooo needed! There is such a dearth of this type of literature available. The illustrations are so cute and colorful and the subject matter is made even more interesting by the way the main character engages with it. Love love love!!!

I’m absolutely in love with these books. I love how the author writes about real geographic places across the world, and the illustrations reflect that. I’m looking forward to buying the next Swift Walker book! My boy loves them!
