I had to stop this CD after about 30 minutes because my head was feeling like it might explode. The audiobook is not very well done. The content is allover and drippy so that one wonders what the point is over and over again. I don't even want to waste my time here with a full review. Just try a good dog book such as How to Speak Dog by Coren. It's an easier read and will actually teach you something practical.

I read Alexandra Horowitz' "Inside of a Dog" and wanted to share the incredible information with my teenage grandson who's a true dog lover. This edition includes everything the original version does in a way that a younger reader can understand. Although it'a a bit below the reading level of a teenager, the subject matter is technical enough that the simplified language isn't presented in a condescending way, so it worked well to give him a solid foundation in canine behavior, and insight into the canine mind. If you give kids something they're interested in, and present it in a way they can easily digest, they will read, and seek out further knowledge.

this book gets tedious after a while and seems to be a lot of anecdotal navel gazing on the part of the author... she just watches her dog then comes up with reasons why her dog does this... it seems way less scientific than I was hoping for and she just talks about her thoughts while watching or walking her dog.... also this is not compellingly written....

For Fido's sake, read this (awesome, amazing, riveting) book! I have had dogs for decades and thought (alas) that I knew everything about dogs. Wrong. As in Really Wrong. (And pretty arrogant to boot!). Inside of a Dog has radically changed my understanding, approach, behavior, and communication with my Lab. She is MUCH more than I imagined, capable of MUCH more than I gave her credit for, and is immensely MORE emotional and sensitive than... well, you get the idea.Alexandra's writing is easy, captivating, endearing, and stunningly informative. After reading it, I was frankly grieved by what I didn't know. And for all my other Labs that I'd 'short sheeted' through my ignorance. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Got a dog? Although Fido will love you forever, if you read this book, you'll know what that means from HER perspective.

Good information in this book, but I would say this isn't for a child under 12 unless they are an exceptional reader. The type is small and it's basically a chapter book, so difficult for a younger child who is an average reader to keep their attention and get through.

I'm rounding up a bit.I started reading this book as research for a novel for which I needed to know more about the abilities, senses, and internal experiences of dogs, and I found it extremely useful for that purpose. It was also just plain interesting -- very much so. I only wish I could remember more of what I read. (I let more than a month go by between reading the first and second halves, so I already know I've forgotten quite a bit.)The book can be a bit repetitive at times, but that is my only criticism.

This is a very interesting book. For the first time as a dog owner I had the chance to have a scientist present a scientific view of "the dog". The constant faithful companion who is essentially family... but, despite sometimes being like a human, is not. This book is factual, interesting, well presented as a scientific work, yet not overwhelmingly so and often times reads much quicker than you would expect a technical text to read. Good job.

This book does a good job of presenting current knowledge of the scientific understanding of dogs, with comparisons to other mammals, and perspective on what is and what is not well understood. It is, as other reviewers have pointed out, not a training manual, rather it is a good example of science writing for an inquisitive and educated non-scientist. It covers a wide range of subject matter, and does a fairly good job of giving life to the material through example and personal history. And importantly, the book is well referenced and replete with an extensive list of further sources. Like any good scientific report, it makes no claim to being the last word or infallible, but rather the starting point for as much delving into what makes dogs tick as the most curious of us could want.

This book was recommended to me by an ardent reader and dog owner. It is thorough exploration of a dog's life and our lives with them. It gets a bit repetitive. Information is informed by research and the writer's anecdotal experiences with her dog, Pump. Which also serves to lighten the mood and avoid being ponderous. It explains why we find living with a dog so pleasing. It is definitely for the dog lover who wants confirmation about the joys of having a dog and the desire to better understand why they do what they do.

The book covers only characters.It starts with lessons on features, expressions, anatomy, poses, clothing and character designs. The lessons are brief and are covered under 30 pages. For example, for drawing of heads, the front and sides are taught. But for heads at other angles, while there are illustrated examples with guidelines, there aren't enough in depth explanation to go with it. This section is just an introduction on figure drawing.The second part of the book features tutorials from various artists on designing characters. There are many useful tips on drawing, what type of materials to use and things to look out for. Many artists are using traditional medium but there are a few tutorials on Photoshop.The third part is on colouring the characters that were drawn in the previous chapter. The tutorials cover a variety of tools that are used, such as coloured pencils, markers, watercolour and Photoshop. Again, there are good tips on handling the specific mediums.The last few pages feature a manga art gallery from various artists.Overall, this book is more on understanding the style of manga art, and the tutorials that show you how to create them.For beginners, I would also recommend getting dedicated books such as Drawing the Head and Hands and Figure Drawing for All It's Worth. Ok, I really thought this was the book that was going to demistify manga style for me. I've been drawing humans realistically and in Western styles for years. Maybe its because I'm so used to realistic proportions, but I just cant seem to be able to create a charming manga style without directly copying the styles of manga artists. My proportions, and the overall look is just screaming "Western". So, I thought, based on existing reviews, that this book would be perfect for me. They say it's more descriptive of the style as a whole than a true beginners guide. They say its better for artists who are above beginner level.To be honest, I'm not sure who its for. My guess would be for people who don't know what manga even is, just to explain it to them. Otherwise, it's practically useless.It has very brief descriptions of manga genres, and it doesn't go into detail on any of them or their styles. That's no help to an artist like me looking to learn how to create a manga style. They don't even visually represent each genre's major styles.It has very rudimental and mediocre guides on facial proportion and manga style anatomy. the artist who created those guides does not seem comfortable with the human form. It's one thing to complain that a manga style lacks realism(of course many manga styles really lack realism), but these guides ...they didn't even look professionally drawn. They looked uncomfortable. I actually cringed a little at some of the illustrations. I don't know how to draw manga, and I can draw better manga than those guides. This part of the book should have been illustrated by the most experienced, most comfortable, and most masterful artist on their project-- not the worst one. Imagine if I actually was a beginner? How am I going to learn if my foundation is based on bad anatomy drawings? That would slow me down for sure.After that disappointment, the rest of the book just lets you peek on different artists creating a single piece of work in their individual style. Cool. This isn't bad at all. Except that there's really not much left of the book at this point. It's surprisingly thin.Honestly, If you're actually a beginner, you might be better off buying one of Chris Hart's updated books. Even if his illustrations have not been top grade in the past, he more than makes up for it with easy to digest text, coupled with helpful diagrams, and tutorials. If you're not a beginner and you already have your foundations, just dive directly into the world of manga. You will learn more by studying real artists than with this book.

Worth every penny! It's hard to find detailed books like this and the art is beautiful!The drawing and coloring tutorials lead the reader step-by-step through each process and tells them what should be focused on most, as well as the importance of details. There are different coloring techniques as well. This book it perfect for everyone, whether you prefer to draw on your computer or sketch on paper. It's great for beginners!

The product itself is nice, but might as well buy it used because I'm highly disappointed how mangled and used up my so called "new" product came in. Had to wipe a brown dirt smear off the book which I have no idea how it got under the protective shell. And the shell has huge cuts and scrapes. My camera is so bright that it doesn't show all of the scratches but the case is almost cloudy from scratches. This is supposed to be a gift and I am worried I might have to find something else and return this bc of its condition.As for the book itself, I had already seen it in person so I knew the content was good. It has a very nice variety of art styles and a mix of traditional and digital coloring techniques. It could almost pass for an art book bc of the beautiful array of works. Each work comes with a detailed yet clear description and breakdown of what tools the artist used and their coloring process from start to finish which is super helpful.If only it was actually new!

I give it 2 stars just because of the work that went into putting the books together.This book is actually 2 or 3 books put together in some sort of chronological order. I already own the Book of Enoch and some other similar texts, and this (The Book of Giants itself) is not enough to publish to make its own book. So if you own the other books i really cannot recommend that you get this one. There simply is not enough new information to warrant spending the cash. The Book of Giants information is heavily fragmented and almost unreadable at times. Key words are missing, sometimes an entire end or beginning of sentence is lost. When they are combined together, after the first portion of Enoch, the Book of Giants is non-existent since it is so short. So even though it is interesting information, and corroborates the other books, and may offer a new name or 2, there really is not enough additional information to make this a worthwhile purchase.In the event you do not own the book of Enoch and you are in the process of learning from a beginners level, this is an interesting read to get most of the information in one place, but again, you will have to deal with fragmented information in sections and it becomes frustrating at times in the first section.

This is an excellently explained and organized reconstruction of some very important information concerning Genesis 6 and onto the days of Noah. There is much truth in legends and The Book of Giants points to the root of many. Mr. Lumpkin did a great job and this book is a must-get. I also recommend getting Enoch and Jasher which are Biblically endorsed references (and Jubilees). When the Authorized Version of the King James Bible says, "There were giants in those days," it meant it literally. The Book of Giants is a reading must for us today as Jesus says, "But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." The Titans and the Monsters will return... soon.

I thought it was very informative. I really liked reading the book of Enoch. It clarified the hierarchy of the angels for me, something that I had always wondered about. I will go back to it again and again.

Thought provoking! Helps explain cultural mythology, paganism and what Jesus/God has done to provide an untainted bloodline for our Savior to be the pure sacrifice for mankind!

I enjoyed reading this text about the Giants. It is very helpful in Reading information like this and comparing it to the scriptures and or the Bible. I like how the author include scriptures that match the reading of this text. It helps to tie everything in so it is very understandable.

More an interesting text better for inducing contemplation than as a hard-fact source. Contains several repeats of comments linking Biblical sources, notably from the books of Enoch and Genesis and archaeological sources.

The author wrote a series. I read all or at least most. They prepared me to read many other version of the same legends. The very different take on Genesis bringing it far more consistent with modern peer reviewed accepted science when viewed with these changes. String / Matrix theory give the glue holding these together along with biological finds through the layers of time. I enjoyed the journey through thought and reason this opened up.

There are some questions I have had over what God had the Jewish people do wen they came to the promised land,,And 'Why' (DEUT and JOSH)This answers some of those questions I have had.If you (like me) have questions, You should consider looking at this book.

Not impressed with the map. It’s very specific to Rick Steve’s personal interest and his books. Which is fine, because that’s what he does for a living. Travel, write, sell his product, his design his let “me make foreign travel easy for all of you first time travelers so you can do a Rick Steves’ “self guided” tour for a fraction of the price” of a tour group. I will still take it with me on my trip and if I get lost Rick Steve’s can have the last laugh! But he’ll never know if I get lost, because whose going to know and better yet, whose going to tell him?

Be forewarned -- this map does not include all of Germany. It doesn't include any of the Baltic Coast or Jutland. It is not even worth the cheap price it is being offered for. Download a few pictures off the web -- you will be better off.

An excellent pocket travel map. I just fold it and keep it in my rental car. It helps with the GPS at times.

You can really tell that Steves loves Germany and Austria because this is one of the best guidebooks in his series. First things first--this is not a regular guidebook in that it doesn't show an endless list of cities that you will probably never visit. Instead, he figures that you'll have less than two weeks for your vacation, so he picks out the places that he thinks you will enjoy the most. If you are looking for a more complete listing, then another guidebook would be better. Getting back to the guide, he has a particular flair for finding the scenic beauty of this region of Europe, and he gives lots of advice for finding those picture perfect spots that you're looking for. Also, Steves is good at tapping into the beer hall scene, so if you're thinking of checking out Bavaria, you'll be able to get some good tips. Of course, you can get better recommendations from a local though. Just think of this as a starter kit, and once you make a few contacts and start talking to the locals, you'll be able to find the places that aren't list in any guidebook.Another good thing about this guidebook is that the maps are fairly easy to follow. The downtown maps for cities are especially good. However, this book is for train travelers. If you are going to be driving, you'll need to pick up a seperate road map because there aren't any good road maps in this guidebook.

First and foremost, to clarify, this product that you are supposedly reading reviews for is Rick Steves' MAP of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It appears that the other reviews are of Rick Steves' guidebooks! Again, this product is NOT one of Rick Steves' famous guidebooks (which I would always rate as 5 stars, incidentally!). This map is very basic; don't count on using it to find your way around a country or city. Only the major cities and towns are marked. Likewise, in the city maps of Berlin, Munich, Salzburg and Vienna, only the major thoroughfares are mapped. You should use this map only as a reference to his guidebook of the region to plan your trip. You will want to get a 'real' map that's much more detailed, e.g. Michelin, when you arrive. Best part of this map? The cool water resistant paper on which it is printed. Especially if you have small children who are apt to spill liquid, as mine did on Day One upon receiving it from Amazon!
